The lines at the Mesa Gießberg cafeteria have been getting longer and longer in recent months. This is partly due to increased demand and a general lack of checkout stations. To address this issue, we will implement the following measures starting in week 08:
-
Reverting the swap of the "hin&weg" and "Seezeit-Teller" lines: The original switch of these lines, as we clearly saw, did not have the desired effect. Instead, it caused more congestion in the interior of the cafeteria. The "Seezeit-Teller" will now be placed back on the conveyor belt and will feature more popular dishes.
-
Introducing an express checkout: At the left end of the checkout area, we are setting up an express checkout—a self-service register without a scale and without EC card payment. This checkout is designed for customers who wish to pay for a ready-to-eat meal using their student or staff ID. We estimate that each transaction will take less than 20 seconds.
-
Introducing a deposit return station: At the right end of the checkout area, we are setting up a dedicated deposit return station. This station will be staffed and will both distribute and accept deposit-returnable items. It will be accessible from both inside and outside the cafeteria. In the long run, this should prevent customers from having to queue again just to return deposit items, making it easier and more flexible to use sustainable alternatives to disposable products.
