The current crisis and inflation have led to drastic cost increases in various areas, e.g. gas, rent or even flour. Unfortunately, our Studierendenwerk has not been spared from these challenges either.
That is why the prices in our Mensa will also increase on 3 April.
The last price adjustment of our lunch menus was six years ago, but even before the Covid pandemic and the Ukraine crisis, the costs for food, energy, maintenance and staff continued to rise – by more than 30 percent for the purchase of goods alone.
The new prices of our main lines Seezeit-Teller, KombinierBar (incl. 2 side dishes) and hin&weg, valid from 3 April, now mean an average price increase of 15 percent.
We are aware that life around the university is becoming more and more expensive. That's why we don't want to simply pass on the increased costs for energy and food to you one-to-one.
To counteract the price increase for students, we have decided to differentiate in future in all areas of our lunch offer according to whether the guests are students, university members or non-university members.
With the new prices and through this fair pricing, we want to continue to keep studying accessible and affordable for all. The differentiation leads to an average price increase of all adjusted prices of 10 cents for students, 30 cents for university members and 1.20 euros for non-university members.
However, the provision of affordable or our non profit services for students in all areas is primarily done through Seezeit's revenue. It is therefore obvious, as the Secretary General of our umbrella organisation DSW also demands, that we need more financial support for the Studierendenwerke in the future in order to reduce the financial burden on students. Only with more help we can continue to set prices socially and fulfil our mission for more equal opportunities in education.
