The 'Pfand gehört daneben' (Deposit Belongs Next to It) project is launching at all Seezeit locations. The idea is simple: instead of throwing refundable bottles into the bin, place them visibly next to it or in designated crates. This way, they can be collected without anyone having to rummage through waste. It’s good for the environment and preserves people’s dignity.
Launched by the fritz-kola initiative, the campaign is simple, social and sustainable. A successful pilot phase has already taken place in the Mensa HTWG, with more than 3,500 bottles being collected and around 280 euros being raised. Now, the Mensa in Konstanz, Ravensburg, Weingarten and Friedrichshafen are joining in.
This is how it works
- Place your refundable bottle next to the tray return area or in one of the crates.
- The cafeteria team will count the bottles and calculate the deposit value.
- The total amount goes directly to the 'Freitisch fund', which is a solidarity-based support programme for students experiencing financial hardship.
What is the 'Freitisch'?
The Freitisch provides financial assistance to ensure that students can get a warm meal each day when money is tight. Those who need support can submit an application. Once approved, the corresponding amount is credited to their cafeteria card. Previously, the Freitisch was only available to students at the University of Konstanz. However, we now aim to extend this support to all Seezeit-affiliated institutions in Konstanz, Ravensburg, Weingarten and Friedrichshafen. From January 2026, the Freitisch programme is expected to provide free cafeteria meals to even more students facing financial difficulties across the Lake Constance region.
Join in — small gesture, big impact!
