Financial support for students during the corona-pandemic

Bridging aid from the federal government for students in financial difficulty

Students who are in financial trouble as a result of the pandemic, for example because they have lost their part-time job, can apply for a non-repayable aid. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is providing a total of 100 million euros to students in germany.

Regardless of age or number of semesters, students can receive the grant of at least 100 to a maximum of 500 euros per month for a maximum of four months from June till September 2020. In order to receive the grant, they have to prove their need month after month and apply for a new grant each month. The amount depends on the account balance of the affected students on the day before the application is submitted. Students can apply online.

To ensure that we can process the applications promptly and distribute the funds, we have set up a team of about 20 employees who will support our social counseling center in this task. The grant does not have to be paid back.

Questions about the federal government's bridging allowance are answered by our team at corona-zuschuss-bund[at]seezeit.com. Information on further financial aid for students, also beyond the Corona pandemic, can also be found on our website.

Here you will find the application form and guidelines for the bridging assistance as well as FAQ's and technical information.

State loans for students

The state of Baden-Württemberg has set up an emergency fund totaling one million euros, which will be paid out as an interest-free loan. The fund is intended to support students who have got into financial difficulties due to the corona crisis. The guidelines for the loan can be found here.

Domestic students who take advantage of the Landes-Hilfe can receive up to 450 € in assistance as an interest-free loan for the months of April and May. Foreign students can also receive up to 450 € for the month of June. The amount of the loan depends on the individual income that the affected students had in March 2020. It can also be granted upon proof of income even if the first income would have been earned in April 2020. The loan must be repaid by June 2021 at the latest, with a minimum installment of €75 per month.
